Seconds can make a big difference in outcome for patients experiencing a stroke. Our Emergency Department is staffed around the clock with a team of doctors and staff who respond rapidly to stroke patients coming into the hospital because with stroke time lost is brain lost.

Waterbury Hospital was recognized with the:

  • 2024 American Heart Association/American Stroke Association’s Get With The Guidelines®-Stroke Gold Plus Achievement Award for the highest standards of care for stroke patients

The award recognizes Waterbury Hospital’s commitment and success in implementing a higher standard in stroke care by ensuring that stroke patients receive treatment according to nationally accepted standards and recommendations. To receive the recognition Waterbury Hospital has met stringent guidelines and maintained clinical standards including:

  • Ensuring the availability of a dedicated Stroke Team that includes all of the staff in the Emergency Department
  • Conducting ongoing staff education specifically focused on stroke care
  • Providing annual training with the local ambulance departments
