When Only the Best Will Do: Our Centers of Excellence

Waterbury Hospital is home to four major centers of excellence: Cardiology, Orthopedic Surgery Center Surgical Innovation Center, and Family Birthing Center.

We offer a full line of state-of-the-art cardiology services featuring world class clinicians, nurses and support staff. Services include: cardiac surgery, interventional treatments, diagnostic testing, cardiopulmonary rehabilitation and physician services from our talented doctors at Cardiology Associates of Greater Waterbury. Our services are constantly evolving to take advantage of the latest technology and to continually strengthen care for patients. Waterbury Hospital meets and exceeds measures for quality and excellence in cardiac care.   And, we excel in emergencies where every second matters. Waterbury Hospital was named the only hospital in Southern Connecticut to achieve a 5-stars for Coronary Interventional Procedures in 2021.

Waterbury Hospital is an international leader in orthopedic surgery. Our highly trained and experienced orthopedic surgeons and physician assistants offer world class care in a unique patient-centered, home-like environment. “TeamOrtho” at Waterbury Hospital offers an interdisciplinary and comprehensive approach to your care. We are well-known for our Joint Replacement Center, in particular our pioneering efforts for minimally invasive total hip replacement and innovative partial knee procedures. Our Orthopedic Surgery Center draws from a wide geographic area, including Westchester County in New York, and Fairfield County in southern Connecticut. Waterbury Hospital was named by U.S. News and World Report as a Top Performing Hospital for knee and hip replacements in 2015.

Waterbury Hospital’s Center for Surgical Innovation is a comprehensive, multidisciplinary center with highly trained surgeons and state-of-the-art technology.   Our expert surgeons and surgical teams apply innovative techniques in the field of minimally invasive surgery (MIS) in many specialty areas.  Minimally invasive procedures are performed through tiny incisions, using either laparoscopic or robotics systems.  Because the incisions are small, patients tend to have quicker recovery times and less discomfort than with conventional surgery.   Minimally invasive procedures, combined with progressive approaches to pain management, offers patients at Waterbury Hospital a faster way to get back to their lives.

Our Family Birthing Center offers a range of child birthing options for mothers. Our caring nurses and talented doctors ensure that mothers and families have the best experience.

Helping Area Residents Stay Healthy

Community health education is one of our strengths at Waterbury HEALTH. We provide free or low-cost seminars and health screenings through our 12,000-member Waterbury HEALTH Club, a wellness organization for all ages.
